Resistance museum

Last week we visited the resistance museum. This interactive experience follows the progression of oppressive regimes. There’s on suranmaise Dutch colonialism which was really heavy.

Prior to this trip I didn’t know about Dutch colonialism in Latin America, or about the Indonesian and Chinese workers that came after.

I tried Suriname food a couple days ago and it was amazing.

It’s an amazing fusion of cultures, I’m just mad so much suffering had to be endured due to that.

I wonder if the Asian population has similar model minority myths as in America or if they stand in solidarity with the other marginalized groups.

It seems like no matter where we go black people are always on the bottom of the totem pole. It’s just another agent of white supremacy – pitting other people of color against each other instead of directing the energy towards the oppressor.

There’s also an exhibit on nazi Germany’s invasion of the Netherlands which was equally as disturbing.

The museum was small but packed with information.

With some of the people going through this, there was a delima ,They had to fight along side the colonizer in order to fight the nazis.

lol

I was late because I had trouble finding a luggage repair shop for my broken checked luggage.

Last week we also had a late night gab session with most people for the 4th of July. This is my first 4th away from my family so it was a little hard but I loved the memories created.

Molly played their harmonica and Tim played the guitar. I really enjoy all our group dynamics.

It was also keti-kotie! It’s a liberation holiday marking the Emancipation Day in Suriname.

I thought it was interesting that it was so close to Juneteenth.

I decided not to go to the festival due to my issues in Belgium, I needed to decompress from that.

I still sent my love and solidarity.
